Team Spotlight: Greta Battaglia

Greta Battaglia, General Manager, Millie’s Pizzeria

Hometown: Catania, Sicily

What's your origin story? How did you get to Atlanta and how long have you been here?

Growing up in Italy, I always dreamed of coming to the United States. After studying to become a chef and graduating, I moved to Atlanta to work at an Italian restaurant. I've been here for 11 years now, and my dream has evolved significantly.

Favorite Childhood Meal? I know it sounds like a stereotype, but it was my grandma’s meatballs!

Tea or Coffee? Coffee

Favorite dishes at Millie’s and/or Politan Row?

Millie’s, definitely Bianca pizza & Caesar salad!

Politan Row: Sheesh, I AM OBSESSED with their Greek salad and salmon!

And how did your career journey end up as Manager at Millie’s?

Before joining Politan, I worked in pastry at an Atlanta restaurant. I saw Politan was hiring and felt it was time for a career change. After my interview, I started as a supervisor there.

When I heard Millie's was looking for a GM, I honestly didn't think I'd get the opportunity, but everyone else seemed to think differently! I was thrilled and a bit worried when I got the offer. It's natural to fear disappointing those who believe in you more than you believe in yourself, but you'll never know what you're capable of unless you take the leap!

What is it about food and beverage/hospitality that keeps you in our Business?:

I love bringing smiles to people's faces, and, as an Italian, I believe food is my primary love language. Nothing makes me happier  more than seeing someone's face light up as they enjoy something I've prepared or served.

What are you most proud of so far in your work at Millie’s?

This role has definitely been challenging, but I’m learning so much especially about what it really means to be a leader and how to lead the right way. Finding the right people to work with isn’t easy, but I have to say I feel lucky right now because I have such a great team. Being able to step back and see them doing so well, following protocol, and running things smoothly honestly makes me feel proud, like a mom watching her kids shine

What are your hobbies? What do you do when you're not working?

Well… I LOVE cooking and baking! So if I’m not working (and have the energy), you’ll probably find me at home testing a new recipe or baking a cake, one I’ll most likely end up giving away to friends, LOL

What are your long term goals, or dreams for the future?

My dream is to one day own a little pastry shop where I can showcase my Italian and European heritage. I also dream of having a small homestead bakery at home (when I eventually move to the countryside), where I can set up a little stand and share my baked goods with the community.
