Yvette Lopez, Bar Supervisor, Bar Politan at Colony Square
How long have you been living in Atlanta, and what is your favorite thing about the city?
I've called Atlanta home since 2010, and what I love most about this city is its vibrant culture, diversity, and endless creativity. Atlanta has a unique way of bringing people together through food, music, art, and community. There's always something new to discover, and I love being part of a city that continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.
How long have you been working in Food & Beverage? How did you get your start in hospitality?
I've been in the food and beverage industry for 22 years! My journey began at 18, working as a server at a small restaurant in my hometown. What started as my introduction to hospitality eventually developed into a lifelong passion. Throughout my career, I've gained experience in various areas of the industry, from serving and bartending to management and leadership. Each role has taught me valuable lessons about service, adaptability, teamwork, and the importance of creating genuine connections. Those experiences have shaped not only the hospitality professional I am today but also the leader I continue to become.
What keeps you working in the hospitality industry? What do you love most about hospitality?
The people, the connections, and the experiences! For me, hospitality has always been about so much more than serving food or crafting cocktails. It's about making people feel welcome, appreciated, and genuinely cared for. I love having the opportunity to create meaningful moments, whether it's through a perfectly balanced cocktail, a great conversation, or simply making someone smile. There's something special about knowing that even the smallest interaction can positively impact someone's day.
I also find fulfillment in mentoring others and sharing the knowledge I've gained throughout my career. Watching someone develop their confidence, improve their craft, and discover their own passion for hospitality is incredibly rewarding. After 22 years, I'm still learning, evolving, and finding new reasons to love what I do.
Tell us about how you got started with us at Politan Row and your path to Supervisor.
My journey with Politan Row began behind the bar, where I quickly discovered opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. Within a few months, I expanded my experience by joining the team at Okay Anny's, our 80s- and 90s-inspired speakeasy. As I continued to develop my skills, embrace new challenges, and take on additional responsibilities, I was promoted to Bar Supervisor.
Transitioning to Politan Row at Colony Square has allowed me to further develop my leadership style, mentor fellow bartenders, and take a more active role in daily operations. I've learned that effective leadership is about more than overseeing a team. It's about setting the standard, leading by example, creating an environment where people feel supported, and recognizing the strengths each individual brings to the table.
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been growing from someone who simply loved the craft of bartending into a leader who is equally passionate about helping others succeed.
What keeps you working here with us at Politan?
What keeps me at Politan Row is the opportunity to be part of something creative, diverse, and community-driven. I love the concept of bringing different cultures, cuisines, and personalities together under one roof. It's an environment that celebrates individuality while creating a shared experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
I also appreciate the relationships I've built and the opportunity to work alongside talented individuals who bring their own perspectives and strengths to the team. No two days are ever quite the same, and I enjoy the energy, collaboration, and opportunities that come with that.
Being part of a space where food, cocktails, entertainment, and culture intersect makes the experience even more rewarding.
What is your favorite dish in the food hall?
Definitely the sashimi from Mora Sushi! I appreciate fresh, quality ingredients, and sometimes simplicity really is everything. There's something special about a beautifully prepared dish that allows the ingredients to speak for themselves. Great presentation, freshness, and attention to detail will always win me over!
Let's move from food into drinks. What is your favorite cocktail of all time?
A Peach Sidecar, hands down! I love a cocktail with a little personality. It's sophisticated, refreshing, and has the perfect balance of sweetness and citrus. The peach adds a beautiful twist to a timeless classic without overpowering the other ingredients.
As a bartender, I appreciate cocktails that are thoughtfully crafted and well-balanced. To me, a great cocktail isn't just about what's in the glass; it's about the experience it creates. Every cocktail should tell a story, and a Peach Sidecar happens to be one of my favorites!
When you're not at Politan Row, what are your hobbies and interests?
Outside of Politan Row, I'm an entrepreneur, creative, and lifelong learner.
Beyond bartending, I enjoy traveling, exploring different cultures, listening to music, and finding new ways to express my creativity. I'm also passionate about personal development and continuously expanding my knowledge, both professionally and personally.
I believe there's always something new to learn, a different perspective to appreciate, or an opportunity to grow. Whether I'm discovering a new destination, exploring a creative idea, or developing a new skill, I enjoy experiences that inspire me and broaden my perspective.
Fun fact about Yvette?
I believe in the Law of Divine Oneness, the philosophy that everything and everyone is interconnected. It's a belief that influences how I approach life, relationships, and even hospitality. I believe the energy we bring into a space matters and that our words, actions, and intentions can influence the experiences of those around us. Whether I'm interacting with guests, supporting my team, or navigating everyday life, I try to lead with kindness, authenticity, and positive intention. To me, meaningful connections often begin with the simplest gestures, and a little kindness can leave a lasting impression.
