Position Summary

The Bar Assist’s responsibilities are to support bar operations by cleaning, garnish prep, and stocking. Bar Assists should be skilled multi-taskers with a passion for guest satisfaction and some knowledge of wines, beer, and cocktails. Bar Assists should also be knowledgeable about menu items, attentive, and driven to learn the skill of bartending in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities, Duties, Functions, and Tasks

  • Handle multiple tasks in an efficient manner.

  • Clean and clear tables.

  • Assist with opening and closing duties, such as preparing ingredients and restocking items.

  • Pursue knowledge of all food and beverages offered on-site.

  • Check identification to ensure guests are the proper age to purchase alcoholic beverages.

  • Stand with, walk with, and carry heavy trays of food and drinks.

  • Ensure the bar is well-stocked with ice, liquor, wine, beer, and all other items necessary for service.

  • Check taps and appliances to confirm that they are working properly, making minor repairs or changing out kegs as needed.

  • Keep the bar clean by wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping, removing soiled glassware, scrubbing coolers and storage areas, and emptying trash receptacles.

  • Actively learn menu items, cocktail recipes, and production techniques.

  • Maintain records and report levels of usage to assist in the reordering process and ensuring that delivered items are stored properly.

Qualifications

  • Must be the minimum age to serve alcohol.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and carry heavy trays.

  • A passion for providing guests with high-quality service.

  • Some knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine, and food.

  • Strong problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to handle tense situations with coworkers and customers calmly and rationally.

  • Ability to meet physical and scheduling demands of the position, including, walking, standing, or lifting heavy items for extended periods and working nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Compliance with all local, state, and federal liquor laws.


Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in high volume establishments

  • Alcohol Server Certification

  • Food Handler’s Permit

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to speak and hear, vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and th ability to adjust focus

  • Constant standing, sitting and walking

  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).

  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb.

  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Be able to manipulate fingers, hands, and arms to cut, measure, pour, serve, carry and wipe.

  • Regularly required to use hands and frequent washing of hands.
